What is this? Hell if I know, it's in Arabic!
I have it on good authority that I have execrable taste in music, and this
proves it. I like this song. I couldn't say why. It's the usual Eastern vocal,
with the usual Eastern vocal acrobatics - except they aren't the usual. This guy
seems to put a little more...ummm...English on it. If I practiced glottal stops
like these, they'd have to send out search parties to find my glottis. It's like
sleep apnea set to music.
I wouldn't know a nursery
rhyme from a call to prayer in Arabic, so for all I know he's singing, "death
to the infidel and all his wicked phonograph recordings! Including this one!"
The other side of the record was less interesting, I thought. It's a dabka dance,
which is a traditional Lebanese dance. I have no clue about the age, label or
provenance of this record.
